Production Report: Finished with Production!

Posted by Leor on May 31st, 2006

Production is finally done! After a few location changes and company moves, along with some weird weather, we finished our last days of filming. We had an incredibly fun wrap party at Beverly Hill’s Camden House and had a chance to chat, laugh about production stories and of course get drunk. Everyone is now wrapping up and looking forward to some much-needed rest… well everyone except for our editor, Erik C. Andersen, who is hard at work piecing the movie together. Now that we are heading into post-production, I’ll be sure to keep you updated on how far along we are getting and when you can expect to see more clips, pictures, and stories before we finally premiere this movie! And before I go, I just want to send a big “Thank You” to all of the people that came to donate their time on the set and help out – you all made it possible. Now, more little known facts:

1. To tell the temperature without a thermometer, count a cricket’s “chirps” for 15 seconds and add 40. This tells you the degrees in Farenheit.
2. More than 50% of people in the world have never made or received a phone call.
3. The term “Radar” is derived from the phrase “Radio Acquired Detection and Ranging.”

That’s a wrap!

Killer Pad wrapped on production last week. A big THANK YOU to anyone who came out for the party scene and for all your enthusiasm throughout this step of the process. The film now enters the ‘third stage’/post production. Keep checking back here as the edits and effects come together to form he final product.

A few new stills from the Viper cam are available in the Frames section of the Gallery. Keep in mind, they haven’t been color corrected and are not indicative of the final “look”. The Viper records more color than actually necessary and the DP & Director adjust the levels in post to achieve an image that really pops. The images are green because the human eye is most sensitive to that part of the spectrum, so there’s more latitude to work with in post.

Yup, that’s Hector Jimenez (from the upcoming film Nacho Libre) puking his guts out.

Production Report: Day 17

Big party scenes today. The pad is jammed with our Hollywood partygoers, grooving to the beats laid down by Master P, T-Bo and Black. I hope you all have had a chance to look at the pictures in our media gallery – we have a sample of some the partygoers you can expect to see in this Killer Pad Party. Big thanks to Chuck Williams for all of those! Last week we had some big monster-makeup effects by Almost Human’s Robert Hall, and this week he’s even topped himself with insane character transformations. We also had a very special visit from Wayne Newton on Friday, who stopped by to say hello and wish us luck. Thanks, Wayne! Since this is our last week in the house location, we’ve been running multiple sets at once, getting every last bit of coverage for the film. By the time we’re finished, we’ll have filmed ever square-inch of this place at least once! Soon we’ll have some costume sketches and more bits and pieces up on the site for all of you. But in the meantime, even more little known facts:

1. Sound carries so well in the Arctic that on a calm day, a conversation can be heard from 1.8 miles away.
2. The “57” on the Heinz ketchup bottle represents the number of pickle types the company once had.
3. TRISKAIDEKAPHOBIA is the unnatural fear of the number “13.”

Camera Corner

Some of you have asked about the equipment we’re using to shoot Killer Pad. Here’s some information from the people who made the camera:

Viper Film Stream Camera

“Killer Pad” is being shot with cameras using the latest cutting edge Digital technology. Two Viper FilmStream Digital Cinematography cameras are being used in “FilmStream” mode which provides the greatest available latitudes and image quality available in today’s digital equipment. The FilmStream signal is being recorded to the S.two DFR digital disk recorder. This allows for the use of digital look up tables on set and for immediate playback and review of each take during the production.

Dave Stump& Robert Englund

The Viper and S.two Recording equipment is being provided by The Camera House in North Hollywood. The Camera House is a leading supplier of high precision camera systems, comprised of cameras, lenses and accessories for the motion picture, television series and television commercial markets in North America. The Viper camera systems been used in the filming of motion pictures, television series, made for television mini series and commercials since their introduction over 3 years ago. The cameras were developed by Grass Valley (a Thomson Brand company) out of the Breda Netherlands factory, which has been producing high quality cameras for over 40 years. The Viper first made headlines with Michael Mann’s COLLATERAL in 2004 and was also used on Mr. Mann’s recently wrapped MIAMI VICE for Universal. In addition to numerous high profile commercials (Nike, HP, Heineken, Ford, Lexus), television mini series (The 4400, The Final Days of Planet Earth, Terminal City), television series (Lazytown, Sex Love and Secrets, Everybody Hates Chris) and David Fincher has chosen the Viper’s to shoot his latest feature ZODIAC which is slated for release late in 2006. “Killer Pad” Cinematographer David Stump, ASC also worked with the Viper’s on the children’s feature, RED RIDING HOOD and most recently on the comedy feature WHAT LOVE IS which is due for release in early 2007.

In unrelated news, Pictures from Day 9 are up!

Production Report: Day 10

Almost halfway done! Today, Joey Lawrence is in the pad, with our very own homage to Weekend at Bernie’s. Last week, we wrapped some screaming fatal orgasms, bong-gurgling hysteria, and we even had room left for heavy drinking… of sorts. Among our newest party guests to join the set were our seductive Goth Girls, Haley Hudson and Christine Barger, who love nothing more than an evil presence to make them hot – which reminds me, don’t forget to see Christine live, every Tuesday night at 7:30 at the NoHo Actors Studio in North Hollywood, and ask her what it was like to work with Robert Englund! Along with acting, she is also a world-renown ventriloquist! So back to the production, Eric Jungmann and Daniel Franzese killed us all with an incredible hot tub routine; no matter how many times we shot that sequence, we couldn’t help but crack up. And last but not least, Christopher Titone and Greg Cipes showed us how two stoners can make any story an experience. Coming up soon is Bobby Lee’s appearance as a very special… um… character. More on that next time, but for now –

Check out the new stills pulled from the camera that’s being used to shoot the movie. More available in the Gallery.

More Little Known Facts:
1. A duck’s quack doesn’t echo, and no one knows why.
2. The name “Wendy” was made up for the book PETER PAN.
3. If a statue in the park of a person on a horse has both front legs in the air, the person died in battle; if the horse has one front leg in the air, the person died as a result of wounds received in battle; if the horse has all four legs on the ground, the person died of natural causes.
4. It is possible to lead a cow upstairs, but not downstairs.
5. The world’s youngest parents were 8 and 9, and lived in China in 1910.
6. All 50 states are listed across the top of the Lincoln Memorial on the back of the $5 bill.

Production Report: Day 7

Posted by Leor on May 3rd, 2006

We are now deep into week 2 of production, and things are in full gear. Since I will be blogging to all of you, I figure it’s time I introduce myself – my name is Leor Ram, and I’m an Executive Producer for the movie. We’ve accomplished a lot of what Robert lovingly refers to as his “horror show” scenes, and we’re moving on to some more of the comedy. Bobby C. King, our incredibly talented stunt coordinator, has put together some really fun jumps, leaps, and slides for our characters as they delve deeper and deeper into the house’s dark past, and Hector Jimenez (who can be seen in upcoming comedy Nacho Libre as Jack Black’s sidekick) has been spinning around a green screen all day. While Daniel has destroyed over 500 dinosaurs (it’s a pretty fair estimate) in his King Kong XBOX game, he spends the rest of his time with Shane and Eric choreographing their hilarious scenes with Robert. But it was our three leading ladies – Emily, Noureen and Corri – that really turned heads this week with their devilishly entertaining dance numbers… but that’s all I’m at liberty to say about that, well, except that Andy Milonakis definitely enjoyed himself. Sam McMurray cracked everyone up on the set with his improvised banter and Jon Lovitz even came by to chat with the cast and crew. That’s all for now – it’s almost time for lunch… I think we’re having gelatin hearts.

Oh, and before I go, I thought I’d end each entry with some little known facts, because… well, everyone loves little known facts:
1. There are over 1,000 chemicals in a cup of coffee. Of these, only 26 have been tested, and half caused cancer in rats.
2. The glue on Israeli postage stamps is certified kosher.
3. Scientists have identified only 4,000 different viruses, a fraction of the estimated 400,000 believed to exist on Earth.
4. Lacking a collarbone, the deer mouse can flatten its body so much it can squeeze into an opening one quarter of an inch high.
